Culture |
|
| Delaware
boasts an exceptionally rich cultural life for a small community.
Residents reap the benefits of a distinguished liberal arts university,
a symphony orchestra, a theater association, an annual arts festival
and a community arts center. |
|
| The
Delaware County Cultural Arts Center opened in 1989 and offers
classes, art exhibits, museum trips, lectures, summer programs for
children and other special programs. Classes, taught by professional
artists and craftsmen, range from acting and ballet to weaving,
watercolors, and poetry. |
|
In nearby Columbus, you'll find a
variety of cultural events as well. Among these are the
Columbus Museum of Art, BalletMet Columbus, the Columbus
Symphony Orchestra, Opera Columbus, and the
Columbus Association for the Performing Arts. Columbus
has three major stages - the Ohio Theatre, the Palace
Theater and the Capitol Theatre in the Verne
Riffe Center. Polaris Amphitheater, located in southern
Delaware County, brings headline entertainment to the area
with its outdoor concert series. |
 |
|
|
| Delaware County
enjoys the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, sponsored by
both Ohio Wesleyan University and the Delaware community. A four-part
subscription series, special children's shows, a popular outdoor
4th of July concert and a family holiday concert are some of the
orchestra's popular programs. |
|
 |
Acclaimed performers with chamber
orchestras, Broadway touring companies and laser light shows
come to town for Ohio Wesleyan's Performing Arts/Lecture
Series. The school's National Colloquium sponsors weekly
lectures on major public issues by such speakers as John
Glenn and Dr. C. Everett Koop.
