| In the
city of Delaware, there are three major parks-Smith, Mingo
and Blue Limestone-and several small neighborhood parks. The
Mingo Park Swimming Complex features an Olympic-size pool,
diving board, wading pool, and community recreation room.

| In the
southern part of the county, O'Shaughnessy and Hoover Reservoirs,
with boating and fishing, are maintained by the Columbus Division
of Parks; Highbanks Nature Preserve, with a mix of open and
wooded trails, is part of the Columbus Metropark system. |

Five
miles north of the city of Delaware, the 7,000 acre Delaware
State Park has over 200 campsites and a large swimming
beach. Boats of unlimited horsepower are permitted and marina
space is available. Launching ramps are located on three sides
of the lake. The reservoir is a fine fishing site for bass,
bluegill, catfish and crappie. The park includes a bluebird
trail and is located next to a 4,670-acre wildlife area. |

| Alum
Creek State Park boasts the largest reservoir in Delaware
County. Visitors can enjoy swimming, boating, hiking, hunting,
picnicking, and other outdoor fun. The park offers 40 miles
of bridle trails and a seven mile snowmobile trail. It has
nearly 300 camping sites, with two beaches and a boat ramp
exclusively for campground guests. The southern end of Alum
Creek Lake is perfect for powerboats and water skiing; the
northern end is full of hidden coves where small boat fishermen
might catch bass, bluegill, crappie or walleye. Sailing regattas
are held regularly on the lake; the park boasts the largest
inland beach in Ohio with more than a half mile of sandy shoreline.
A full-service marina is also available. |
