Ohio Wesleyan University, founded in 1842 by the United Methodist Church, is one of the top liberal arts schools in the country. The 200-acre campus, adjacent to downtown Delaware, has 61 buildings and two nearby wilderness preserves used for field study. The academic programs are grounded in the liberal arts and nearly 2,000 student study a wide variety of majors. The Jemison Auditorium, Gray Chapel and Chappelear Drama Center provide performance space to the community; the Branch Rickey Physical Education Center is an outstanding fitness facility; and the Hamilton-Williams Campus Center hosts events large and small.
